STORY NIGHT AT RED LION MANOR

Thursday, October 13, 2005 — Jacob and Martha Mosley, owners of Red Lion Manor, held a spooky story night this week as an early Halloween celebration. The Mosleys invited citizens from around Millsberry to explore the grounds of the manor and share their spookiest Red Lion Manor stories. Some of the guests previewed what they've put together for Halloween by arriving in full costume. Seasonal snacks, such as fresh apples and popcorn, were served, and some Halloween toys were given as prizes for the scariest Red Lion Manor stories.

Anh Nguyen, of Golden Valley, told the tale of a shadow that moved across a lighted window. "I'm not exactly certain what it was," Nguyen said. "It looked like a shadow or a blur, and it blocked out the light that came from the window for a second. What's really spooky is that the Mosleys were on vacation at the time!"

Barent de Groot, of Ravenwood, shared a similar tale. "Once, I was walking past the manor, and I noticed the lights were on. I knew that the Mosleys were out of town, so I thought it was strange. When I looked back a second later, all of the lights were off!" de Groot told the Gazette.

Several guests ended up with new spooky stories by the close of the evening. After exploring the Manor's grounds, several said they saw strange, unidentifiable things. "I'm pretty sure I saw something moving in the shadows," Kimi Tall Bull exclaimed. "When I looked closer, though, I didn't see anything there." Other visitors spotted bats, and some noticed that the howling winds that shook the Manor's willow trees didn't appear to disturb the trees of neighboring homes.

"People are welcome to visit the Manor grounds throughout the Halloween season," Jacob Mosley told the Gazette. "You'll always see something unexpected here!"

STRANGE NOISES BAFFLE POLICE

Millsberry Police officers were called out to several locations around Millsberry this week to investigate numerous reports of strange noises. Witnesses have described these sounds as loud hollers or screams, but were unable to provide any other information. "I heard this strange yelling, and I could have sworn I heard something similar in one of the movies playing in the theater right now," one witness told the Gazette. The source of these odd sounds could not be determined, though, and further examination failed to turn up any clues. Millsberry Police have asked residents to keep their eyes and ears open, and to report any signs of unusual activity or noise.
