CLASSES BEGIN AT MILLSBERRY DOJO!

Thursday, April 27, 2006 — Martial arts classes begin this week at the Millsberry Dojo, located in the Community Center. To get a feel for what martial arts classes are like, simply head over to the dojo and speak to the sensei (Japanese for "teacher"), Siobhan Hidaka. She's very eager to start instructing students in the ways of a martial art that she created herself - Shinbu Ryu.

"I'm really looking forward to starting classes," Hidaka told the Gazette. "There will be no belt testing this week, though, because I want potential students to get an idea of what martial arts training is like without any pressure. This is my first time teaching, but I've learned from some of the best senseis around. I can't wait to share my knowledge with my new students!"

"One of the key things that I want my students to learn and remember is the importance of health and fitness in life," Hidaka continued. "The body and mind cannot function well if they are not nourished with healthy food and regular exercise. My most successful students will most likely be those who are always focused on staying in peak condition!"

"Speed and accuracy are key factors in reaching that peak condition, and I encourage students to repeat classes as many times as they want to sharpen their skills. During this first week, sessions will be quick, and I predict many will master the lesson easily. When belt testing begins, students will find the classes increasingly challenging."

Many excited students have already signed up for classes at the dojo. "I can't wait for martial arts classes to start!" said Angie Wollner, of Golden Valley. "I've been wanting to try martial arts for quite a while, so it's really cool that there's a dojo in Millsberry now!" Other citizens were looking forward to improving the condition of their bodies and minds. "Shinbu Ryu sounds like a fun and awesome way of getting exercise," Luke Powers, of Lakeview, told the Gazette. "Plus, I think that I'll learn a lot about myself. It's going to be a great experience!"

All Millsberry citizens are encouraged to sign up for martial arts classes at the Millsberry Dojo, where classes are free!
