TIME CAPSULE TO BE OPENED!

Thursday, March 2, 2006 — One of Millsberry's most famous native sons will be honored next week in a small ceremony. In celebration of the Millsberry resident and world-renowned explorer, Cecil George Colhurst, a time capsule that he left behind will be opened at his historic home in Golden Valley. Edna Nelson, curator of the Millsberry Historical Society, will be on-hand to break the seal of Colhurst's 100-year-old capsule.

Cecil Colhurst was born in Millsberry in 1858, but left at a young age to travel the world in search of what he called "the thrill of discovery." He became a world-famous explorer who was particularly celebrated for his miraculous archaeological and historical finds. Colhurst returned to Millsberry in 1898, claiming that he had uncovered some clues concerning the whereabouts of a hidden treasure. He and his team bought a homestead in what is now Golden Valley and promptly began digging for treasure.

Colhurst and his crew dug for almost eight years, despite the fact that his home was damaged in the Great Fire of 1905. In early 1906, Colhurst gave up his search and left Millsberry forever, leaving nothing behind but a time capsule with the instructions that it should be opened in 100 years. Colhurst continued traveling the globe for almost forty more years after leaving Millsberry.

"It always seemed rather strange to me that he was so successful at finding artifacts and treasure in other places," said Mrs. Nelson, "but he failed at discovering anything in his own hometown. Maybe his time capsule will tell us something about his state of mind during those eight long years of futile digging."

Colhurst House, in Golden Valley, has been maintained by the Historical Society. Unfortunately, the house itself (and the intricate system of tunnels beneath it) has never been made available to the public.

HOME ELECTRONICS STORE A HIT!

Angela Winter, owner of the new home entertainment store, has declared that the grand opening sale's Early Bird Breakfast Bonanza has proven to be a smashing success! "It was so great to see people come in for breakfast, stop to stay and browse, then leave happily with their purchases and a free t-shirt," Winter told the Gazette. "I saw plenty of familiar faces during the next two days of the Breakfast Bonanza, so it looks like we're well on our way to having lots of members for the Customer Rewards Program!" Winter continued. The Customer Rewards Program offers shoppers special opportunities to buy exclusive products that are not available to the general public. No purchase is necessary to join, though.
