Thursday, May 10, 2007 — It's my favorite time of the year! It's not too hot out and everything's in bloom. I find myself inspired by all the colors and excitement.

You might think that since I own a clothing store and design my own clothes I would have no interest in shopping for clothes at yard sales. But I'm out at yard sales every weekend! It's great for me as a businesswoman, and it's also great fun. I get to meet people, talk about fashion, find out which clothes are popular, and see how much people are charging so that I can keep my own prices competitive.

Every Saturday morning, I grab the Gazette and check out the Yard Sale Classifieds. I try to mix up the neighborhoods I visit and hope that one day I'll have walked (and shopped!) every street in Millsberry.

I pick a neighborhood and then pick a street I haven't been to before. Then I pick an address that will be my first stop, and hop on my bike. From the first sale, I just walk down the street and see where the day takes me.

Just recently I was on Thunderbird Place in Ravenwood and saw some amazing deals. Biker boots for 85 Millsbucks! An out-of-season snowflake sweater for 200 Millsbucks! I ended up buying some green star glasses for 38 Millsbucks; another eager shopper rejoiced when she saw the snowflake sweater for such a great price.

I also encountered some citizens with great style who made me think of some possible designs for fall. One girl on Willow Wood Way wore a bell-shaped skirt with a varsity jacket, both of which she said she purchased in yard sales. I was also delighted to see someone wearing a green wraparound dress. That was so much fun to design! It really brought back memories. And to see her wearing it with legwarmers and flats was also eye-opening. Millsberry citizens are so creative!
