Who had the Winning Spirit?

Thursday, August 13, 2009 — In the heart of the Golden Valley neighborhood, Millsberry citizens gathered 'round as a new house was going up. It was quaint—and pink—and it was being built for none other than...Edna Nelson! Why the new pad? Because of your votes! That's right: Edna is the proud winner of the Millsberry Spirit Award, an honor that scores her a shiny golden trophy, plus a new home, with lots of cool furniture and other stuff inside!

And what does that mean for you, a regular Millsberrian? Well, some of Edna's favorite new pieces will be on sale at the Furniture Store, which means you can have a hint of Edna's style—right in your own home! Place a paisley-and-checkered wing chair in your living room. Add an antique side-table next to your bed. Or alert your pals that it's dinnertime with your very own seven foot tall grandmother clock!

One citizen exclaimed, "My home immediately felt cozier with the Edna-inspired pieces. The clock took a little getting used to, what with the loud gong going off every hour. But now it's quite comforting."

Despite all of the other stellar nominees, the race for the Spirit Award wasn't too tight. Edna Nelson, curator of the Millsberry historical society and Millsberry's oldest and most-beloved citizen, won by a landslide.

We caught up wth Edna to find out just how many times she had to sing her campaign cheer. She laughed and said, "Oh just a few. After a while, I had to record it to preserve my voice. Also, I didn't want it to get too annoying. That's why I eventually switched tactics, and started putting up cookie- and lemonade-stands to make it easy for people to ask me questions about the myths and history surrounding Millsberry."

Well, Edna's quiet charm certainly seems to have worked! Even today, as she brainstormed about decorating her new home, she set up a new lemonade stand and quenched the thirst of the speedy workers helping to construct her home in the heart of Golden Valley.

Beaming, Edna said, "I'm so excited to see my new house! I've lived in just about every neighborhood in Millsberry except for Golden Valley. It's such a scenic and lush landscape, full of small farms and rolling hills! I'm still in shock that I won the Spirit Award, considering the tough competition. All of the nominees are my friends, and they're all very talented individuals who add great energy to our town. But we'll do it again next year. In the meantime, I'm looking forward to getting to know my new neighborhood!"

As we thanked her for her time, Edna added, "This is what I love about Millsberry—there's always something new popping up, something new to explore—another neighborhood, a new game!"

Well, if Millsberry's oldest citizen can find so much fresh stuff to enjoy, this town is definitely full of treasures—so get out and explore!
