In between classes the main hallway is the Academy's center of activity,
where friends meet to chat, pass notes, and make plans for what they'll be
doing after school.
This is also where most of the gossip is passed along, like speculation about
the playoff chances for the Millsberry Millers (the local baseball team) or who
might be running for the Academy's Student Council. Also, this is where students
find out about school and town events, like upcoming movies, the opening of
fishing season, the opening of a new shop, and the like.
Looking down on the main hallway is a portrait of the Academy's founder, Mr.
Hoffenfield, which bears a plaque beneath it containing the school motto: "Veni didici vici".
Although commonly understood at the time of the Academy's founding many years ago, today very few
of the students know what it means as Mr. Semper's Latin class isn't too popular. But, they're
all certain that it must be something very inspirational.
